Dan’s Journey: From the Marine Corps to Business Leadership

Dan proudly served five years in the United States Marine Corps, beginning his military career as an Aviation Ordnance and Missile Technician with the renowned VMA-214 “Black Sheep” Squadron, part of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing at MCAS El Toro in Santa Ana, California. To deepen his expertise, he attended the Navy’s Aviation Ordnance (“AO”) School in Jacksonville, Florida, where he underwent six months of advanced training.

After a year at El Toro, Dan was handpicked by his squadron commander for one of the Marine Corps’ most prestigious and selective assignments—Embassy Duty. Less than 1% of all Marines qualify for the elite Marine Security Guard (MSG) program, which supports fewer than 300 U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide.

Dan attended the rigorous three-month Marine Security Guard School in Washington, D.C., where fewer than half of all candidates graduate due to the intense physical, academic, and psychological demands. Since its founding by Congress in 1948, the MSG program has worked in close partnership with the U.S. State Department and the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) to protect personnel, property, and classified information across American embassies. All embassy guards must possess a top-secret clearance.

Following graduation, Dan served with distinction at U.S. embassies in La Paz, Bolivia; Guatemala City, Guatemala; and Georgetown, Guyana. His three years in South America not only deepened his cultural experience but also helped him achieve fluency in Spanish—a skill that would later prove invaluable in his business career.

Business and Financial Leadership

Dan holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance from George Washington University and an MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management. With over 22 years of experience in the construction industry, he has served as both Controller and CFO for multiple companies.

He spent a decade with Hitt Contracting, a prominent family-owned general contractor. During his time there, Dan worked under a meticulous CFO who emphasized strong operational and accounting standards. Dan played a key role in developing detailed SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) across all departments and locations. Under this disciplined framework, Hitt Contracting scaled from $100 million to over $5 billion in revenue and expanded into more than 10 offices nationwide.

Dan then went on to serve as CFO for two other family-owned subcontracting firms—W.L. Gary and Hann & Hann—where he helped both organizations undergo critical restructuring and modernization. By implementing clear operational procedures and cultivating self-managed teams, he supported each company’s growth by more than 2.5 times within five to seven years.

Fractional CFO and Consultant

For the past 10 years, Dan has worked as a fractional CFO and consultant, advising more than 35 companies across a broad range of industries including technology, healthcare, construction, government contracting, auto repair, lobbying, hospitality, and more. He brings a strategic, results-driven mindset to every engagement, helping businesses streamline operations, improve financial controls, and accelerate growth.

Dan firmly believes that outsourcing CFO services allows companies to focus on what truly matters—scaling their business, making data-informed decisions, and staying ahead of the competition.
